Stephen Funk (he/they) is a queer Pacific & Atlantic islander who has been organizing creative activism for nearly 20 years.
As a Marine serving under Don’t Ask Don’t Tell, Stephen simultaneously came out of the closet and spoke out against the Iraq War as a conscientious objector. Upon his release from the brig he continued his activism as OG (original gay) member of Iraq Veterans Against the War, serving as the San Francisco chapter president. In 2008, he founded Veteran Artists which produced activist theater for a decade, including “Make Drag, Not War!” which ran at Dance Mission Theater and The deYoung Museum in San Francisco, and Judson Memorial Church in NYC.
