Nathaniel Isiah Swanson is a 19 year old artist hailing from Brooklyn, New York. In 2018, Nathaniel competed in the Brave New Voices Poetry festival as part of Urban Word NYC’s National Slam Team where New York City ranked among the top 20 slam teams in the country. He is a 2019 and 2021 NYC Youth Poet Laureate Ambassador and has performed at various physical venues such as The Apollo Theatre, The Shed, The Nuyorican Poets Cafe, The Brooklyn Museum, Harlem Stage, The Bell House, and The Delacorte Theatre, as well as virtual spaces connected to New Federal Theatre and Poetic Theater Productions. Nathaniel has been published in the 92Y anthology “Joy and Hope and All That: A Tribute to Lucille Clifton”, in Urban Ivy’s limited anthology “Celebrating Black Fatherhood”, and most recently in Kevin Powell’s anthology “2020: The Year That Changed America” which features iconic writers like Nikki Giovanni, Gloria Steinem, Nancy Mercado, jessica Care moore, and others. Nathaniel currently attends DePauw University on a 4-year full tuition POSSE scholarship and is pursuing an interdisciplinary major in English Writing, Media Studies, and Women’s Gender and Sexuality Studies.
