Melissa Cunningham, originally from Biddeford, Maine, is a visual artist, writer, professor, and veteran of the Air Force. She has exhibited her work at Scott Air Force Base in Illinois, Southern Illinois University, and Edwardsville Art Center in Edwardsville, Illinois, as well as Maine College of Art and the Institute of Contemporary Art in Portland, Maine. Melissa has received numerous awards including Best of Show at Scott AFB and the Art Service Club Award at Southern Illinois University Edwardsville. Her work seeks to capture the psycho-intellectual, emotional, and social perspectives of traumatic healing. She recreates, reorganizes, recalls, and offers a response to the powerlessness felt when living with PTSD by documenting the transformative history we all carry with us.
