Margaret McCarthy was named among the “Best of the Best Emerging Fine Art Photographers 2016” by BW GALLERIST. ARTZEALOUS named her one of “Four Photographers to Keep Your Eye On In 2016”. Inspired and indebted to mythology, McCarthy brings the eye of a poet to her photography, exploring archetypes of myth and dream in her imagery. McCarthy has exhibited her photographs extensively, including the Fogg Art Museum, the Overseas Press Club and The Hudson River Museum, as well as numerous galleries, universities and public exhibition spaces. Her “Divine Feminine” series is now part of the Kinsey Institute Art Collection. A graduate of New York City’s School of Visual Arts, she has served on its BFA Scholarship Awards Panel, and taught and mentored art students through The Great Lakes Colleges New York Arts Program. She is a member of The American Society of Media Photographers (ASMP) and its Fine Art Brain Trust, American Photographic Artists (APA), and American Photography Archive Group (APAG). McCarthy’s poetry collection NOTEBOOKS FROM MYSTERY SCHOOL (Finishing Line Press, 2015) was selected by Finishing Line Press as a finalist for its New Women’s Voices Award. McCarthy was named a finalist in the 2016 Soul-Making Keats Literary Competition in Poetry, a program of the National League of American Pen Women. She writes heightened language plays based on her poems. THE SACRIFICIAL KING: A PLAY FOR JOHN LENNON was given a New York City production. DEIRDRE RETROGRADE was read at La Mama Theatre, NYC and recently staged as part of Talent On Tap’s Reading Series. Her work has been performed in programs at Poetic Theatre Productions, NYC, The English Speaking Union of New York and The Hudson Valley Writers Association; she often performs at Irish American Writers and Artists (IAW&A) monthly salons. McCarthy’s poetry has appeared in numerous literary magazines, journals and anthologies including: The Pagan Muse:Poems of Ritual and Inspiration (Kensington Publishing), CYPHERS Literary Magazine, Working Papers in Irish Studies, Gargoyle Magazine, Shaking Like A Mountain: On line Literature about Contemporary Music, Poetry New Zealand, and California State Poetry Society Quarterly, to name a few. She is a member of The Dramatists Guild of America, The Author’s Guild and PEN USA. A graduate of NYC’s School of Visual Arts, McCarthy works as a professional photographer in New York City; her photographs have been widely exhibited.
