Liz Hensel served in the United States Marine Corps for 5 years on active duty and continues to serve in the reserves, putting her at 14 years of service currently. She deployed to Afghanistan where she was injured with a traumatic Brian injury and was later diagnosed with PTS. She is a huge advocate for those invisible injuries of war. Aside from being a reservist, she is a mother of two girls and wife of an active duty Marine. Prince, her dog, was a huge part of her mental health coping mechanism and he became her anchor when her husband deploys. She understands how important it is to have a pet as part of the family, which is why she created and founded a non profit called Leave No Paws Behind USA. She is also the host of the Latina She Served Podcast, showcasing the diverse voices of our service members, veterans and military spouses. When she’s not advocating, she teaches zumba, runs, hikes, writes, volunteers with her USO and daughter’s school, and travels!
