Major John D. Manley, US Marine Corps Reserve (retired) is an Army civilian currently serving as the Director, US Army Public Affairs, Northeast Region. Deployed with the Civilian Expeditionary Workforce in March 2013, John served a 15-month deployment to Kabul, Afghanistan as the deputy director, public affairs for the International Security Assistance Force. During his 21-year career as a Marine Corps officer, John worked in finance and public affairs in California, Hawaii, Virginia, Okinawa and Korea. His civilian career includes working as a newspaper editor, director of marketing, freelance writer and in television production. He also established Manley Communications, focusing on strategic communications and business development. He is married to Heidi Mathis and has five children. John performs improv with the Yes Show and is a member of the Warrior’s Chorus.
