Create for Love, Redefined!

on Fri, 02/03/2012 - 16:12

Calling all poets, playwrights, directors, choreographers, actors and dancers:

This February 25 at the Wild Project, we are re-imagining Poetic Theater Productions' very first event, Love, Redefined, and we are are accepting submissions!

The spirit of Love, Redefined is non-commercial, non-traditional love. For this iteration of Love, Redefined, we are inviting you to reinterpret, remix or re-imagine a traditional sonnet (see list of our ideas below, others are welcome!) in whatever form you would like (slam, theater, dance, music, etc).

The only requirements are that the piece is two minutes or less and that it is memorized for the performance, and we would like either you or another actor read the sonnet that inspires your piece before or after (not included in the two minute limit). Send pieces to [email protected] by Sunday, February 12th, and please let us know whether you are planning on performing your own work or whether you would like us to enlist some great actors for it. The show will be Saturday, February 25 at 8PM at the Wild Project (195 E 3rd St btw Aves A & B). We hope that you will join us!

A few sonnet ideas:

William Shakespeare (http://www.opensourceshakespeare.org/views/sonnets/sonnets.php)
John Donne
John Milton
Dante Alighieri
Edna St. Vincent Millay (http://digital.library.upenn.edu/women/millay/sonnets.html)
Elizabeth Barrett Browning
Pablo Neruda
Rainer Maria Rilke

If you would like to re-imagine a (short) traditional love poem that is not a sonnet, you are more than welcome to do so!

Looking forward to hearing your ideas!
